Chapter Four

After a day and a half of lying in bed at the hotel, Dub deemed Shane well enough to travel. It had been after one in the morning when they’d pulled into the ranch, and Shane was relieved to find the ranch house dark and quiet. It wasn’t that he was afraid to face Trent and the others but he was definitely nervous. He grabbed his grocery sacks out of the back seat. “I’ll see you in the morning,” he said, leaning over for a kiss.

“The hell you will.” Dub took the bags out of Shane’s hands. “You’re staying with me.”

Shane shook his head. “Are you sure? Maybe it would be better to tell everyone before we start sleeping together.”

“They know we’ve been together in a hotel room. I have a feeling they’ve figured it out.” Dub gave Shane another quick kiss.

Shane looked at the bunkhouse, remembering the room he’d occupied for years. “Did you give my bed away already?”

“You’ve been gone a month, Shane. Easy waited as long as he could for you to come back, but he finally hired a guy named Cash Wiley. I haven’t met him, but I did see the huge Harley he rode in on.”

“And he’s sleeping in my bed?” Shane asked. He hadn’t expected them to keep his job open indefinitely, but it hurt to know he’d been replaced.

“No. Your bed is right up there.” Dub pointed to the corner bedroom on the second floor. It was the master and had once belonged to Dub’s father before his death. It also happened to be Dub’s room.

Before Shane could protest, Dub got out and shut the door. He walked to the front porch and waited for Shane to follow. With a sigh and a stomach full of butterflies, Shane got out of the truck. His ribs were much better, and he’d decided they had been merely bruised instead of cracked, but he’d yet to convince Dub he was well enough to fuck. Since he couldn’t very well get Dub’s cock inside him from the bunkhouse, Shane decided to throw caution to the wind and accompany Dub to the master bedroom.

Dub smiled down at Shane and gestured to the door. “From now on, I want you to think of this house as your own. No more knocking.”

Shane hadn’t knocked in years, but he didn’t point that out. “Okay.”

Dub opened the door and ushered Shane ahead of him. “After you.”

Shane got two steps inside the house before the overhead light turned on. Trent stood at the top of the steps, wearing nothing but a tight pair of boy shorts.

“Hey,” Shane greeted.

Trent leaned his forearms against the banister. “Sneaking into Dub’s bedroom in the middle of the night? Figures.”

“Shut up,” Dub warned, closing the door.

Shane was surprised at Dub’s tone. Trent and Dub had butted heads through the years, but more often than not, it was Dub’s way of looking after his baby brother. Shane glanced over his shoulder at Dub, trying to figure out what had put the anger in the handsome man’s voice.
